EU-Russia Innovation Corridor (ERICO) arranged EU-Russia Innovation Cooperation Lunch Debate hosted by Alojz Peterle, MEP and Vice-Chair of the Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee on the 12th of October in the 2nd European Innovation Summit at the European Parliament in Brussels. The lunch debate brought together representatives from the European Commission, members of the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC) and EU Member States with key innovation stakeholders from the Russian Federation, the EU, and the city of Lappeenranta.
Georgy Sumkin, Senior Counsellor, Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the EU, Oskar Benedikt, DG RELEX, European Commission, Lev Shchur, Deputy Chairman of the RAS Science Center in Chernogolovka and Martin Penny, DG Research, European Commission joined us as speakers at the Lunch Debate which was moderated by Tom Hultin, CEO of Lappeenranta City Holding Company Limited representing ERICO.
Tom Hultin presented the results of the 1st EU-Russia Innovation Forum & St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum 2010 after which the opportunities for strengthening of EU-Russia cooperation in the area of innovation as a major driver for the EU-Russia Partnership for Modernization were discussed.

Knowledge4Innovation is organising the 2nd European Innovation Summit (EIS) in the European Parliament from 11 to 14 October this year. The role of innovation in tackling the grand challenges will be at the centre of discussion with stakeholders and policy makers from all over Europe and beyond. A debate will take place on Europe’s challenge to become a global leader in innovation and how we can make innovation partnerships successful. The Summit includes a three-day exhibition in the European Parliament, breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as the session “Europe’s Future Nobel Prize Winner”, aiming to raise students’ interest in science and technology careers.
